About Us

THE HARD WORD, now incorporating THE HARD WORD Writing School, is one of Australia's most prolific professional writing, media consulting, freelance journalism and writer education bodies.

We produce editorial features that are published in many of the country's leading publications, carry out major professional writing, content marketing and editorial management projects for some of the nation's most respected organisations, and write novels and non-fiction books.

Chris Sheedy
Director of professional writing
Chris is one of Australia’s busiest and most successful freelance writers. He has been published regularly in the Sydney Morning Herald, Virgin Australia Voyeur, The Australian Magazine, GQ, In The Black, Management Today, Men’s Fitness and countless other big-brand publications. He is frequently commissioned to carry out copywriting and corporate writing projects for organisations.

For over two decades Chris’s writing has taken him around the globe. He has been commissioned to write feature articles, travel stories, blogs, books, Q&As, profiles, web copy and more for publications and businesses in Australia, New Zealand, the USA and UK.

Having conducted thousands of interviews with a broad range of thought leaders, Chris has also held the position of Editor over several magazines and has run professional writing courses for staff within major media houses. Chris also spent 16 years as the media representative in Australia/NZ for Guinness World Records.

Chris is passionate about expanding the freelance professional writing industry by discovering new talent and nurturing them into a thriving market.

Jenny Bond
Director of creative writing
Jenny believes every person has a story to tell. An English and history teacher with more than a decade of experience in Australia and the UK, Jenny was inspired five years ago (by an offhand remark from her husband) to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming an author.
She has subsequently succeeded in having two major fiction novels, Perfect North (2013) and The President’s Lunch (2014), published in Australia and New Zealand via Hachette Australia, and in Europe via Dumont Buchverlag. See her official author site HERE.

Jenny has also co-authored two non-fiction books, 100 Great Icons and Who The Hell Is Pansy O’Hara?, published by Random House in Australia/NZ and Penguin in the USA.

Passionate about the written word, Jenny hopes to motivate others to harness their creativity.
